Laboratory Experiments

If you are interested in participating in labratory experiments at the Goethe University Consumer Behavior Research Lab (CoRe LaB), follow these steps:
  • Register a new account on this website. Only current students at Goethe University Frankfurt are eligible to participate in CoReLAB experiments. Please only use your s#@stud.uni-frankfurt.de email address. Creating multiple accounts will result in losing eligibility to participate in future experiments. Agree to the privacy policy and begin your registration.

  • When a researcher schedules a new experiment, a subset of eligible people will be invited from the database of registered individuals. You may not receive invitations to certain experiments, even if you would have been eligible to participate. If you are not invited to an experiment then you cannot participate in that experiment.

  • Invitations will come via email. If you wish to sign up for a particular experiment, simply follow the directions in the email. You are never obligated to participate in any experiment if you do not want to. To stop receiving future invitations, simply un-register your account on this website.

  • If you receive an invitation email, you must respond affirmatively in order to participate. Spaces in an experiment are limited, so it is important to respond early to better ensure that a space will still be available. Important Note: Once you respond affirmatively, you cannot later withdraw this response from the recruitment system, so please verify that you are actually able to come before you respond.

  • Usually, some extra persons are invited to ensure that a minimum participation level is achieved. Alternates will receive compensation for arriving for the experiment on time. The exact amount of this payment is determined by the researcher conducting that particular experiment, and will be described in the invitation email.

  • Participants will usually be compensated based on the decisions they make during the experiment. The exact amount of this payment is determined by the researcher conducting that particular experiment, and will be described in the invitation email.

  • Important Note: After the scheduled start time, anyone who responded affirmatively to an invitation but did not show up will not receive any compensation for that experiment. In addition, if you sign up but don't show up to multiple experiments, you will not receive invitations to future experiments.

  • During an experiment, Participants must follow the directives of the researchers. The researchers will identify themselves before the commencement of the experiment.

Type of stored data, purpose and legal bases, deletion periods, participant database

The data collected in the online recruitment system Orsee are used exclusively for the organization of experiments at the CoRe LaB and will not be shared with third parties.

The following data are required for the system to function and are collected from all participants:

  • First and surname
  • Email addresses to which the invitations will be sent
  • For which experiments one has registered, as well as whether one has actually shown up and participated

In addition, participants may provide further data, which is not mandatory. These data include telephone number, gender, academic degrees, study start date, and profession. Please note that these data are necessary for some experiments. For example, it may happen that only bachelor students in their first semester or only men/women studying a certain subject receive invitations to participate in a particular experiment. Subjects who have not provided the corresponding data may not be invited to participate in such experiments.

The data is used for the following purposes:

  • Invitation and information of participants for experiments
  • Verification of the attendance or non-attendance of registered participants.

The data generated in experiments are not linked to the data stored in the online recruitment system. Participants may decide that they do not wish to receive further invitations to experiments at any time. Participants are free to unsubscribe from the Orsee database independently.

Experiments

The data/responses generated in the experiments are analyzed by scientists at the CoRe LaB. These data are anonymized and cannot be traced back to individuals. Results of the scientific analyses are used for academic research and lectures. In general, our research is publicly available.

The data of our experimental studies are collected completely anonymized as well as pseudonymized and serve scientific research purposes as well as publications of Prof. Landwehr and Prof. Bornemann. The anonymized data are stored for an indefinite time on a hard drive of Goethe University. Only selected persons from both chairs have access to it. Data will not be transferred to third parties. Deletion of individual experimental data is technically not possible due to anonymization.
